Ons Huisie is a restored heritage property on the sands of Table Bay looking out toward Robben Island. Ons Huisie is Afrikaans for our little house.
This little gem produces Afrikaner fare at its best. It is a lovely cosy place to visit particularly on a cold winter night when they serve a delicious variety of in traditional potjies (cast iron cauldrons).
Naturally being a fisherman's cottage, the abundant choice of seafood comes to mind and yet they have made really considerate provision for the vegetarians amongst us.
The classic musselpots and Oysters are not to be missed, but if you're a visitor from yonder shores, why not try the Souskluitjies - these are steamed dumplings with cinnamon -absolutely delicious!
With an excellent wine list to boot, you cant go wrong and because everything is sourced locally, their green imprint is excellent. Dont be embarrassed to ask how you pronounce the names of some of the dishes and what is in them. You will be pleasantly surprised at the wide range of taste opportunities available on the simple menu.
In fact I'm so sure you'll love the food at this place, I'll post a few blogs with recipes, especially for the more traditional dishes, such as the souskluitjies and the potjies.
Getting there is easy - Driving North along Otto Du Plessis drive take the turn off to little Bay and follow the signs. There are also My Citi buses during the day if you wish to enjoy a lunch time meal and of course Uber is alive and well in Cape Town.
