If you've visited cape Town but haven't been to Mzoli's, Then you haven't really visited Cape Town.Situated in Gugulethu, a Cape Town township that offers a true reflection of how South Africa has changed and developed over the last twenty years. Abject poverty on one side of the road and the "Noveau Riche" on the other.
If you really want to get a glance of the inside of this beautiful country, what makes the people tick, how they tick and how their lives play out, then this is the place to come. Here you will see the emerging generations socialising and drinking together in a way that their grandparents could only have dreamt of.
The meat is famous, the drinks never run dry and whats really special about this place, is that its so affordable.
You need to bear in mind that his place is African - You eat with your hands - if that bothers you, you had better bring some disposable cutlery, serviettes and paper plates. They provide meat - the African way, off open fires and its delicious.
You will meet people there that you will remember for the rest of your life.
If you are looking for refined, or European don't come here. This place is special because it is African, no pretences, no frills. However if you want to experience reall South African Meaty Grills and maybe learn a few words of isiXhosa at the same time, then look no further.
Remember:
Gugulethu is a township, for your personal safety, hire a guide from the city to take you there. Do Not drive yourself. Do not go alone at night. Mzolis is safe, other parts of the township are not. Dont leave with strangers. Just have a really good time and if you can - go back for more.
Getting there and safety:
I'm not going to print driving directions, because I believe this experience needs a guide at least for the first time. Go only with enough money to spend and enough to get there and back. Don't carry credit cards and passports, carry other ID like a drivers licence or student card.
